Is There a Difference Between Studs and Mares?

In Photo Finish™ LIVE, male and female horses race the same; the difference is in the breeding.

Male Horses (Studs)

Male horses can begin breeding at age three if they are retired. To breed a stud, it must be put on the Stud Market. Breeding is only open during days 8-14 of a season.

On the stud market, you’ll set a Stud Fee that determines the cost of breeding with your horse. Players pay that fee to you (minus a 25% breeding fee) whenever they use the horse.

You can breed with your own stud, and all you pay is the 25% breeding fee

Studs can breed until age 24. Additionally, once a horse is put out to stud, it must stay there for a minimum amount of time. Choose your fee carefully if you think your horse will be popular.

Once a horse is put out to stud, it cannot be removed until after the current breeding window.

Female Horses (Mares)

Female horses can begin breeding at age three if they are retired and keep any foals they produce. Mares you own can breed new foals until they are 25, at which point they die.

To breed a mare, head to the Stud Market to find a suitable partner. Pay the Stud Fee, and your mare will become pregnant. Mares can become pregnant once per season and always deliver at the beginning of the next season. Breeding is always successful.

Pro Tip: Consider the Lineage Cup when setting a breeding price.
